Spend the first 4 nights of your vacation in Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast, where the picture-postcard scenery includes beaches, volcanic mountains and quaint towns. Your home-away-from-home is Sorrento, overlooking the Bay of Naples. From Sorrento it's a scenic 31-mile drive to Naples, with easy access to Pompeii, the Roman city destroyed and completely buried during a two-day volcanic eruption in 79 AD. The ruins were found nearly 1,700 years later and today are among the most famous in the world. Stop by the archeological museum in Naples to see recovered Pompeii artifacts and eat pizza in the city where it originated. From Sorrento, you can also take a ferry to Capri, Italy's most famous island and a gorgeous playground for the rich and famous. Driving along the Amalfi Coast to such cliffhanging towns as Positano brings the thrill of dramatic coastal scenery and hairpin turns that will help to recharge your soul.
From Sorrento you will head north about 165 miles in your rental car to Rome, the 'capital del mundo' where history and culture meet in glorious harmony. While there you will take in such breathtaking sites as the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, Coliseum, Pantheon, Spanish Steps and more while breaking for a cappuccino at an outdoor cafe or a plate of homemade pasta at one of the city's many family-run trattorias. You'll be staying just a few kilometers outside the city center at the ultra-modern 4-star Villa Carpegna with easy access to public transportation to take you into the city made famous by Michelangelo and Fellini.

Depart to Cefalú, a charming coastal town, renowned for its breathtaking Norman Cathedral with dazzling mosaics and the medieval wash-house built in the rock. Proceed to Capo d’Orlando along the Tyrrhenian coast and stop for lunch. Continue to Taormina called "the pearl of the Ionic Sea", founded in 400 BC and beautifully located overlooking the sea and the peak of Mount Etna. Enjoy time at leisure to shop down “Corso Umberto” or simply walk through the tiny streets. Possibility to visit the fascinating Roman - Greek theatre. Proceed to Catania. Day 4: Catania-Mount Etna-Catania
If weather permits, ascend to 5,400 feet, on Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe. Enjoy a lunch in a farmhouse on the slopes of Etna and wine tasting of local production. Back to Catania, the town known for its streets built with black lava stone from mount Etna. Walking tour through Via Etnea, Via Crociferi, the Piazza Duomo with the Cathedral, the "Liotru" statue, the roman Amphitheatre, the Opera House (external visit), the University, and the noble Palace of Biscari (external visit). Day 5: Catania-Siracusa-Noto-Ragusa
Depart to Siracusa to visit the archaeological area including the famous Latomie of the Paradise, the Greek Theatre, the Roman Amphitheatre and the Dyonisios “Ear”. Visit the island of Ortigia, the small baroque old city centre built by the Aragonians. In the afternoon, depart to Noto, renowned for the harmony and unity of its Baroque style and today declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Proceed to Ragusa, a city that is divided into two parts: the upper part built after the earthquake in 1693 and the lower part that is called Ragusa Ibla. Day 6: Ragusa-Piazza Armenina-Agrigento

Day 7: Agrigento-Selinunte-Segesta-Palermo
Depart to the Archaeological park of Selinunte, the largest in the Mediterranean area with the impressive Temples and Acropolis. Day 1 | ARRIVAL IN ROME, ITALY: Time to rest or start exploring the “Eternal City.” At 5 pm, meet your Tour Director and traveling companions and leave the hotel for a special welcome dinner with wine at one of Rome’s lively restaurants. (D)
Day 2 | ROME: Sightseeing with your local guide this morning concentrates on ancient Rome: Visit the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, where Roman legions marched in triumph. Then, time for independent activities and exciting optional excursion possibilities. (B)
Day 3 | ROME – FLORENCE: Start with a guided visit to the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, world famous for Michelangelo’s ceiling paintings and The Last Judgment. Next, visit monumental St. Peter’s Square and Basilica. In the early afternoon, drive along the Highway of the Sun north into Tuscany and its hill-clad vineyards, which house the famous Chianti wine, to Florence, “Cradle of the Renaissance.” You may wish to join an optional dinner outing to a fine Tuscan restaurant and try out the Chianti wines. Day 4 | FLORENCE: During your walking tour with a local guide, visit the Academy of Fine Arts with Michelangelo’s celebrated David, admire the magnificent cathedral, Giotto’s Bell Tower, the Baptistry’s heavy bronze “Gate of Paradise,” sculpture-studded Signoria Square, and visit Santa Croce Basilica with the tomb of Michelangelo.
